*New* Jacksonville Regional Medical Campus – Admissions Information

Beginning with the 2025-2026 application cycle, University of Florida College of Medicine is offering a new application track corresponding to the recognition of our Jacksonville clinical site as an official Regional Medical Campus (RMC) for years three and four of the curriculum. If you are interested in this option, even if you already applied as Regular MD, please read on. You may still change your application type in AMCAS to Other Special Program, recertify your application, and this will update automatically in our system without any further action needed on your part other than completing the secondary prompt for Jacksonville if you have not yet done so. Email us at med-admissions@ufl.edu if you need to complete that prompt and have already submitted your secondary.

Jacksonville track applicants will first be evaluated for that track, but if not selected can still be considered for regular admission. Admitted students to this track who choose to attend UF COM must fully commit to spending their third and fourth years in Jacksonville for clinical training.* Years one and two are still conducted fully in Gainesville and follow our standard curriculum, but will incorporate active engagement supporting mentorship, research exploration, etc. with UF COM Jacksonville faculty in preparation for clinical years, which will take place fully in Jacksonville (except for any electives that students wish to take in Gainesville or as away rotations). These clinical experiences will meet the same learning outcomes expected of all COM students. Eligibility requirements are identical to those for the regular MD program.  Selection criteria include a demonstrated interest in addressing health disparities, the social determinants of health, and serving underserved patient populations, particularly in urban settings.

This training occurs under the direction of UF COM faculty, at an urban, safety-net teaching facility which supports a full spectrum of UF residency training programs. This facility and other UF sites throughout the community provide the full continuum of care, ranging from primary care to the most advanced specialty care.  Read more about the UF Health Jacksonville RMC here: https://med.jax.ufl.edu/jacksonville-regional-medical-campus/.

Jacksonville Common questions:

  1. Q: Will applying to Jacksonville increase my chances for admission to UF COM in general, since I can still be considered for the Gainesville program if not interviewed for Jacksonville?

A: No, because we are not increasing interview slots or admissions slots overall. The Jacksonville cohort is very small and focused; therefore we only recommend (and welcome!) those applicants who feel a strong calling to that particular clerkship track based on careful research and who have a record of experience that they believe complements the features of the track. Read more about that here: https://med.jax.ufl.edu/jacksonville-regional-medical-campus/welcome/.

  1. Q: I already submitted my application for Regular MD (Gainesville all four years); how can I change it to Jacksonville?

A: Simply reopen your AMCAS, change your program type to Other Special Program, and recertify your AMCAS. This will not delay the review of your application or require you to resubmit your secondary if you already completed it.

  1. Q: If I apply to Other Special Program: Jacksonville RMC, will I also be considered for the Regular MD program?

A: Yes, but the initial review will be for the Jacksonville RMC committee in accordance with your application selection. If not selected for interview as a Jacksonville applicant, it is still possible to be invited to interview for the Regular MD program.

  1. Q: Is the interview process different for Jacksonville applicants?

A: No, with the exception of one of your assigned interviewers being affiliated with the Jacksonville RMC whenever possible.

  1. Q: How many spots do you have in the Jacksonville program?

A:  Currently eight, but not all who are accepted may attend; therefore, we can likely accept more. Remember that you can still be considered for the Regular MD program if not accepted for Jacksonville, and all Regular MD students will spend some time training in Jacksonville.

  1. Q: I am an MD-PhD Combined degree applicant. Can I also apply to the Jacksonville RMC?

A: AMCAS only allows an applicant to select one program type, so it is more important for you to select the MD-PhD program if you are committed to that track. If selected for an interview, and if you have a strong interest in the Jacksonville clerkship track, please let us know at that time.
